Sustainability Statement

Last updated April 2023.

West9 Design Ltd is owned and run by Claire Harrison, who is a multi-disciplined, creative and conceptual graphic designer with over 20 years’ experience in the design industry. She integrates her creative energy with a client’s business mindset and supports them with branding, print & digital creative solutions. The West9 Design process includes a meeting to obtain a detailed brief on the project, a discovery phase with in-depth research on the subject matter and any competition, visuals, and creative concepts to find solutions for the project, refinement of designs and proofing, and finally the fulfilment of the project which may consist of sending a job to print and / or providing digital assets. Claire works remotely from her boutique studio and serves a variety of industries including charities, not for-profits and small businesses. Her services range from reports and brochures, logo design and full brand identities, campaign design to website design.

Sustainability is intrinsic to West9 Design’s ethos and values as a company, and we know there is a long way to making our industry environmentally friendly. We recognise that our actions have an impact on the environment (on which we all depend), workplace (the people we employ, our clients, supply chain and customers), communities (in which we operate) and our philanthropic efforts. Even we as a small business I have a responsibility to reduce carbon emissions in every activity I undertake, and I will highlight, and weave sustainable practices and raise environmental awareness within my small business practices, and I hope to bring awareness and change to our industry.

West9 Design Ltd always seeks inspiration and new ways of working for every project that it undertakes, including new technology and sustainable options, sharing ideas with the wider community and industry contacts, regularly attending networking events, and always learning. Conducting regular reviews on sourcing solutions that care for the planet when procuring products and services to support the way West9 Design is run, including fulfilment from suppliers, reviewing energy efficiencies, waste reduction & water conservation, is crucial to providing an all-round sustainable service and continually improving sustainability practices that reduce impacts on the environment.

West9 Design Ltd currently helps in the local community by volunteering in various ways, Beyond Barriers Mentoring Scheme at Kingston University, running the Kingston First website principles workshop, volunteering at local school’s e.g., helping with a running club and reading scheme, careers days at a local senior school, and ad-hoc pro bono design work for a local school and football club. West9 Design also donates to Crisis at Christmas & Trussell Trust instead of sending cards and has gifted in an auction via her networking group, a day of her time to two local charities, Counselling for Life and Wandsworth Oasis. Giving back and contributing to the local community is a core part of what West9 Design Ltd does, and it is fulfilling to be able support in various ways.

West9 Design Ltd has embarked on its sustainability journey and has worked with Auxilium Business Consulting Ltd to audit its environmental impacts. I am committed to being seen as a “Design Studio that considers impacts on the environment in all aspects of the design process”, always learning, challenging what we do and how and why we do it.

West9 Design Ltd will continue its sustainability journey and regularly update its activities and impacts in the four pillars of environment, community, workplace, and philanthropy to help build a greener planet now and for the future.
