“I am so pleased I chose Claire. I am completely clueless with branding or websites, and she made me feel at ease. Absolutely delighted with the end result and it’s the best investment I have made on my business.”
Client
Udari Wickremasinghe formed Attain Accountancy in 2023 to help sole traders, contractors and small limited companies with their accounts. With a focus on working with Gen Z skilled workers, particularly electricians, Udari offers a flexible, communicative approach to businesses whose owners are often away from their desks.
Udari and I met at the Kingston Chamber of Commerce and have been business friends for a couple of years.
Brief
Udari chose my Elevate + website package which included: full visual identity, a new website, Canva templates for social media and a PowerPoint template to ensure consistency across the brand’s online presence.
Udari had initially created her branding herself and held no emotional connection to the DIY results that she felt didn’t represent her business. She was looking for a full rebrand to elevate her business, bring out her personality and attract more of her preferred clients.
The new design needed to represent Udari as bright, warm and a good communicator and appeal to more Gen Z clients, particularly manual skilled workers. The business owners Udari was looking to connect with value her skills but also prioritise a good work/life balance. They appreciate quality and are looking to build deep relationships to get to a place where they feel confident to ask questions about their finances. Udari’s approach is open and generous – she makes herself readily available for her clients whenever they have questions.
Udari already had a strong personal brand in place, with lots of local connections, but needed her business brand to work harder online across her website and social. She waited to invest in a whole package which involved working on the look and feel and we bought in a copywriter – a mutual contact, Matt of Indelible Think – to create a chatty, friendly tone of voice for her.
Creative
Matt and I started this project with a joint discovery session where we talked in depth with Udari about her customers, her services and her approach. Matt then went off to create the copy whilst I started on the branding.
We discussed ideas and used mood boards to gain direction on the look and feel of the new visual identity for Attain. The new branding needed to reflect more of Udari’s values and personality as well as connecting to her ideal audience.
At the mood board stage, I experimented with illustration – Udari was keen to bring an element of fun and positivity into the design. The result was a bold, confident, graphic direction that was both playful and professional and could be used across all of Udari’s customer touchpoints. Visual cues came from the name itself and leaned towards a modern, positive, clean aesthetic.
For the final creative, I used a colour palette that is strong, brave and professional with a touch of femininity. These colours very much reflect Udari’s personality and warm character whilst being consistent and projecting the professionalism you expect from an accountant.
The new logo design came from the idea of growth and being on a journey, to reflect Udari’s core value of being helpful and offering advice at each stage of her clients’ business. I also played with the idea of using the ‘A’ to reflect the idea of attaining and achieving as business owners. Both the steps and the letter ‘A’ represent the idea of help being given at each step of the business journey. (This is something that we felt would particularly resonate with the start up businesses Udari was looking to attract.)
I then used the steps and ‘A’ shape in a simplistic way to shape the layout of the graphics within the visual identity. This helped achieve consistency within a distinct look and feel.
The typography is modern and accessible. I used Funnel Display which has a slight pixel offset effect to reflect the concept of the steps whilst remaining subtle enough to maintain the overall clean look and feel of the branding.
Impact
The new Attain Accountancy branding is present across a Squarespace website as well as social media and PowerPoint templates.
Udari now has a brand identity in place that aligns with her personality and vision for the business and appeals more directly to her ideal clients. Her confidence has increased, and she is now able to take pride in sharing her new website and make the most of opportunities she previously didn’t take. She’s been using her templates across social media, achieving a consistent look and feel, and enquiries have come in via her website.
Udari wanted a website that was easy to use. During the handover I gave her a Squarespace training session, and she is now happy to maintain her website on a day-to-day basis.
“I knew Claire for a while and I have always admired her work ethic, quick response and ‘get it done’ attitude. I immediately knew I made the right choice for my small business when we had the first discussion. She had a detailed plan and took me step by step through the process. She made time to understand me, my business and my customers. The process was smooth with clear timelines. And I was informed at every given step as to why we are doing what we are doing. Even her web dev support was excellent.”
